Venessa Farn

Certified Sex Therapist

Inspiration

Growing up in an isolated northern Saskatchewan community, Venessa saw the devastating toll inter-generational family trauma and substance abuse had on members of her community. She also saw the power of the human spirit to strive for a healthier way of life. Inspired by her grandmother’s and mother’s compassion to listen to people’s stories without judgement, Venessa became an advocate for marginalized people and social justice in her community.

Education

Venessa graduated from UW-Whitewater with an MSc in Community Counselling. She has post-graduate training in trauma recovery and substance abuse. She’s also completed the Sexual Health Certificate Program at the University of Michigan, and is an AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist. She has completed Level II training in EMDR and has training in Music Imagery. Venessa is a Canadian Certified Counsellor and is a Licensed Professional Counsellor in the State of Wisconsin.

I am passionate about helping people understand the physiological and developmental processes behind their behaviours, and guiding people towards lasting change while providing a caring and compassionate place to heal. I have travelled extensively and have broad experience with many cultures. Everyone has a story and I am interested in yours.

Philosophy

Venessa loves to laugh and loves music. She believes that it’s important to have interests and activities that feed your body, mind and spirit, remaining mindful of where you “spend” your energy. Maintaining balance is important for health and wellness, which she achieves through movement, music and a sense of humour. Venessa is an authentic, dynamic therapist who works to build a collaborative relationship with her clients from a non-judgemental perspective.

Vision

Venessa has learned that people who are traumatized rarely feel that they have a voice. Her passion is to help people find their voice. During therapy, her goal is to listen without judgement to people’s stories and help them discover their strength. She specializes in sex therapy and trauma recovery, but is also experienced in treating anxiety, depression, complex PTSD, parenting issues, and women’s issues. She’s an advocate/ally for LGBTQIIS2+ community, and has specialized training for working with transgender individuals. She also has advanced training in couples’ therapy, and is experienced in working with desire discrepancy, infidelity and family conflict.
