Inspiration

Emily has always been drawn to learning about people’s life story. From listening to other’s stories, she has learned lots of human nature and how people cope with the hardships in their lives. Some of the themes Emily has noticed in people’s lives are shame and stigma around sex and sexuality, various relationship dynamics, and our internal experience of events. What Emily has learned has inspired her to become a counselling psychologist to support individuals and couples find resources to manage the challenges in their lives and heal from previous experiences. Currently, she is seeing individual clients and not couples.

Education

Emily has completed a Bachelor of Arts (with Honours) in Psychology and Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology from the University of Lethbridge. Emily has also completed additional training in Gottman Level 1. She is currently completing training to become a Certified Sex Therapist.

Philosophy

Emily believes we are the result of all our previous experiences (e.g., personal, family, peer, or cultural). She views behaviour as being presently helpful or unhelpful, even if it was helpful at a previous point in life. In therapy, Emily will want to understand what is happening right now in your life (e.g., thoughts, behaviours, emotions, body sensation), but also your life story that has led you to where you are. By doing so, she hopes to work together to change patterns in your life to better fit your present needs and goals.

Vision

In therapy, Emily believes in creating a non-judgmental, compassionate, and collaborative environment. As a sex-positive therapist, she works with diverse sexual interests and sexualities, gender identities, and various relationship types/forms. Emily works with clients who struggle with, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues (peer, familial, and romantic), domestic violence and abuse, sexuality and sexual behaviours, coping skills, self-esteem, and developing and enforcing boundaries.
